Inferencing (Years 3-4)

Overview

Reading involves the understanding of ideas; it relies on readers’ abilities to actively construct meaning based on evidence. The ability to infer is critical to the overall construction of meaning. This focussed workshop on inferring in Years 3 and 4 provides teachers with a variety of practical lesson ideas for teaching and provides strategies which support students to make and validate their inferences.

Participants attending this workshop will examine:

• strategies to support students to infer;
• lesson ideas and tips for the classroom;
• examples across a range of texts and text types.
